Recently in the American Empire…Tensions continue to rise in the Middle East
President Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken rushed around the Middle East in an attempt to manage the escalating crisis in Palestine and Israel, and to avoid a wider conflict erupting. However, all did not go to plan as a scheduled summit with Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority was cancelled at the last minute as a result of the fall-out from the explosion and subsequent deaths at the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital on 17/10/2023. The US has moved two Aircraft carrier strike groups to the Mediterranean to deter Hezbollah and Iran from direct involvement in the conflict. One step forward for democracy and rule of law
The legal woes of Donald trump continue to mount as a Colorado judge rejected another attempt by former President Donald Trump to squash a lawsuit seeking to block him from the 2024 presidential ballot, based on the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban”. The case will begin next week focusing on whether the events of January 6 “constituted an insurrection” and whether Trump “engaged” in “insurrection”. If found guilty, Trump would be deemed disqualified from public office and prevented from running for President in 2024. But also two steps back….
Thanks in part to a typically scathing Trumpian intervention, moderate Republican Tom Emmer’s candidacy as Speaker of the House was torpedoed, and little-known Mike Johnson was chosen instead. Johnson is most (in)famous for his extreme views on gay marriage and abortion, and his efforts to help rally support amongst colleagues for Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election result. Ironic, the most notable action of one of the most powerful people in the world’s most powerful democracy, was his work to deny the democratic process. Thank you for your support, it means a lot.
